Mississippi State QB Nick Fitzgerald may have make the most with what he has at his disposal against UMass on Saturday.
The Bulldogs were already pretty banged up at receiver entering the matchup with the Minutemen as two senior receivers, Donald Gray (groin) and Gabe Myles (foot) were in danger of missing the game.
Now according to multiple people at Davis Wade Stadium, it seems as though sophomore Keith Mixon — who leads the leam with 255 receiving yards — won’t be available for the contest.
While Mixon’s injury was revealed today, Myles’ foot has nagged him for much of the season. He missed three straight games earlier in the year before returning to action against BYU and Kentucky. However, he re-aggravated the injury two weeks ago against Kentucky and didn’t participate last week vs. Texas A&M. He was deemed as doubtful.
As for Gray, he was listed as questionable and Mullen said he’s planning to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of his injury on Monday. Gray leads the team in receptions (24) and is second on the team with 214 receiving yards.
According to Will Sammon of The Clarion-Ledger, Mississippi State will, in fact, none of those three wideouts will be in action. Instead, it will be senior Jordan Thomas (sliding over from TE), sophomore Deddrick Thomas and junior Jesse Jackson who will get the starting nods.
