Tallahassee, Fla. -- Syracuse football quarterback Eric Dungey suffered an apparent right-ankle injury in the first quarter at Florida State and has exited the game.
Dungey, a junior, appeared to sustain the injury running the ball during the Orange's first drive. He was immediately helped to the locker room before returning to the sideline, putting his shoe back on and having a heavy layer of tape wrapped around his foot.
After jogging on the sideline for a couple minutes, Dungey returned to the locker room late in the first quarter. Then he ran back out with about 11 minutes left in the second quarter, spoke with head coach Dino Babers and came on for the next drive.
SU senior quarterback Zack Mahoney filled in for Dungey, but was largely unsuccessful. He threw for a couple first downs and pooch punting down to the FSU 6-yard line.
The Seminoles lead 14-0 with 10 minutes left before halftime.
"I think when he went through that change with (Jordan Martin) coming in and him not getting as much PT as he wanted, I think all he did was put his head down and press harder than he ever has," SU linebacker Zaire Franklin said.
